Outstanding New Teacher Award

The Outstanding New Teacher Award Committee for 2011 invites TYCA-Midwest members to nominate individuals early in their professional careers who are showing distinction as teachers.  The nominee selected will receive a plaque honoring the achievement, will be recognized at the Friday luncheon at the 2011 conference in Columbus, Ohio, and will receive a $100 gift certificate to NCTE.

Nominees may be teaching at any two-year college and must be a) within the first five years of teaching careers at the two-year level (with no more than three years of previous full-time experience at the high school and/or four-year level) and b) able to attend the 2011 TYCA-Midwest conference in Columbus to accept the award if selected.  (Work as an adjunct faculty member beyond the years of full-time teaching shall not disqualify an applicant.)

Nominees should excel in at least three of the following:

The nomination packet must include the following:

  1. A letter of nomination from a TYCA-Midwest member citing the nominee's accomplishments
  2. A package that includes: the nominee's current curriculum vitae, three letters of support from students, colleagues, and/or a supervisor/administrator
  3. A letter that includes a statement of the nominee's philosophy of teaching (not to exceed two pages)
 

The nomination must not exceed 15 pages total (packets exceeding the page limit will be returned without review).  Neither faxed nor e-mailed packets will be accepted.  The committee chair must receive three copies of the nomination packet no later than March 30, 2011.  Please address questions to the committee chair:
